LCP@lemmy.worldOPto Technology@lemmy.world•Discord in Early Talks With Bankers for Potential I.P.O.English9·5 months agoDiscord, the social chat app popular with the video game community, has met with investment bankers in recent weeks to discuss preparations for an initial public offering as soon as this year, two people familiar with the talks said.
[…]
The people, who requested anonymity because the conversations are confidential, cautioned that the talks were still exploratory and that I.P.O. plans remained subject to change.
Intensely dumb.
EDIT: The Pro Plus Premium Max etc words all jumbled up together just don’t fit well with me. I’d need to keep referring to the chart in the article to avoid confusing between all the models.

I understand costs have gone up, so I can accept a $1 increase in subscription. The problem is that Spotify wants to do a bunch of side projects at my expense. I have no interest in podcasts or audiobooks yet I must fork up the extra money to fund it. I have no say in what my money is being used for and I hate that.
It’s why I moved from it to Tidal and then to Apple Music (even though I’m on Android). Both have their own issues but at least they’re focused on music.
LCP@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Prime Video subs will soon see ads for Amazon products when they hit pauseEnglish45·1 year ago“We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem,”
“If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate’s service is more valuable.”
:(
I bought the V2 suite of their apps at release to support the company because I’m tired of perpetual subscription software. I’m not expecting lifetime updates or support, I just want whatever I paid for to work reasonably without hassles.

They accidentally uploaded a third party app “WellnessBuddy” to the Fitbit store once and I downloaded it on my Sense 2. Works perfectly fine. They never bothered expanding support.

But yeah, I don’t recall the last time I heard music in a residential elevator.

- Emojis do not look the same on all platforms. Let’s take
white large square
⬜ for example. Emojipedia shows what that emoji looks like on 26 different vendors. Some are pure white, some are shades are grey, and then there’s Microsoft who in its usual infinite wisdom decided it should be purple.large yellow square
🟨 is a tossup between actually yellow and orange. This issue is also exacerbated with different displays displaying colours differently. Factors such as color accuracy, viewing angle, brightness affect how you perceive colour.
This also extends to face emojis.
grinning face with big eyes
(Emojipedia link) isn’t that easy to tell apart fromgrinning eyes
(Emojipedia link)- Emoji support depends on your device. I’m on Windows 11 22H2 which recently added support for

Lemmy’s search is far more flexible, it’s just buggy/broken right now – at least for me.
LCP@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming AppleEnglish5·2 years agoFacebook bought Instagram for a billion. WhatsApp was 16 billion (and additional 3 billion in restricted stock units).
Looks like it was previously given for free by Amazon Games if you had a Prime sub and claimed a copy. Was apparently also in one of the Xbox Live Games w/ Gold months.

LCP@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit is testing verification labels for brandsEnglish3·2 years agoI don’t see anything immediately wrong with verification. There are cases where people reach out to companies for support, and having them be verified helps. Tech enthusiasts like us might be less susceptible to phishing/scams, but regular folks aren’t.
However, after everything Reddit has done recently, there’s no stopping them from turning this into a status symbol thing like “the website formerly known as Twitter”. They could tweak their algorithm to boost comments of “verified” accounts, degrading the quality of conversation there.
Gives me iOS 7 vibes.
I like it in theory, but in some of the examples they provided on https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/06/apple-introduces-a-delightful-and-elegant-new-software-design/, reading text isn’t the easiest with all the colors and blurs everywhere.
