My Stealthburner started making a grinding sound when extruding. It’s not the motor, but the gear attached to it. I cannot figure out how to stop it though. I’ve tried reseating it, adjusting the locking nut on the shaft, tightening, loosening. I’m hoping someone has an idea for me.
It sounds kind of like a bearing. Maybe from the top metal gear. Spray some lithium lube into the bearing?
If the bearing is gone, that wont make it better. Best way would be dissasembly and then turning it to feel if it is bad.
Yeah if is completely gone it won’t help but if the noise changes, he’ll know it’s the bearing.
Yea I’m gonna replace the bearings and see how that goes.
Are the teeth worn down? Maybe it’s time to replace the gears. (Throwing stuff at the wall here) other than that it sounds like maybe there is a piece of filament stuck somewhere rubbing against the gear?
It doesn’t appear so.
Oh what about that bearing? Maybe the bearing is going out?
Yea I’m gonna replace the bearings and see how that goes.
Defintiely sounds like a bearing issue, but also check for metal filings between the gear teeth - they can accumulate over time and cause that exact grinding noise even if the bearing seems fine.
