  • I mean, at this point the best thing that can happen to our biosphere and atmosphere would be the inevitable AI-driven societal collapse that will be the result of unchecked capitalist crusades to make the best, fastest, biggest line go up the furthest before anyone else, safety be damned.

I used to be the one screaming at people in the transhumanism subreddits that they’re delusional, now I’m screaming that they’re not delusional, no, go ahead, make it smarter, faster, bigger… put the thing in charge of the stock market, it’ll be great bro, I promise.

  • I’ll compromise and say it’s a little of column A and a little of column B.

It’s true the Boomer boomers took away a LOT of the bedrock of modern democracy, capping off with the reign of Reagan and the whole greedonomics of the 80’s.

But the younger generation has only been led to believe they’re powerless, it’s just that the actions they would need to take up at this point have become massively uncomfortable and the corporate wing of our federal government has had free reign to spill comfort all over us every day. We are a manipulated population.

It’s really hard to mount organized, democratic resistance and grassroots community action when you’re going to face massive amounts of anonymous hate, threats and backlash from even friends and family for championing… checks notes …clean water and medical care, while alternatively you can retreat to Discord where you have a polycule of various other people who feel too deeply about the world that they have chosen escapism and fantasy and air conditioning and a sheltered world where nobody is going to trample their feelings.

Not saying there aren’t principled fighters out there, it’s just that it’s much, much harder to get the general, scrolling public to pay attention when everyone just wants to scroll their feeds and check out after working 18-hour shifts to stay alive.

This isn’t an insurmountable problem but we would need enough people to suddenly feel uncomfortable enough to set aside their daily discomforts and start organizing for a better tomorrow, but the internet has a way of attacking you for wanting better things, so we also need to do something about the internet.

  • We all hem and haw endlessly about how bad the climate change problem is, but by not collectively DOING something about it, we’re leaving it up the countries that actually have the biggest populations and have the most at stake in taking drastic action.

In America or Europe we are talking about building sea-walls and flood control systems, spending billions or trillions on preparing for rising sea levels.

What about India? China? Southeast Asia? They have far more to lose from extreme weather and wet-bulb heat events and far more people with lives at risk and less resources to put into massive concrete walls around their coastal cities. How are we going to feel when they start seeing extreme, unilateral options as viable? If they decide to do drastic geoengineering projects like shading the earth with aerosols or orbital shields, we could all suffer if those projects have unintended consequences. (The climate is complicated, yo.)

  • Our population voted someone into the highest office riding on the promise of drilling for more oil and increasing factory farming. We have atomized our culture so much that corporate forces have stripped people of their empathy and care and passion like an overripe banana and we don’t mix perspectives anymore so that we can pull people back.

There’s no hope of ending this misery until those of us who remain thinking with our minds get off the computer and start socializing, organizing, challenging people and pulling people into our idea of a better tomorrow. Most people don’t even know where to find other people to talk to and debate with and this is by design. That’s the trap we’re in we need to break free of, and then maybe if we can get to that point we can start making cultured meats and alternative proteins a thing.

Otherwise, we’re going to fish the oceans until they’re dry and we will create hellish suffering for every life form involved until there’s nothing left to feel pain.

  • Yeah, maybe my people just messed me up.

I’m pretty sure we’re now in a situation where most of our society’s contention is driven by childhood-induced shame over sexuality in some form or another.

And there’s not shit we can do about it because every time someone tries to make a campaign to encourage better sex-education, or even scarier, sex positivity among children, those people or groups get attacked for being pedos and predators.

This is going to be a social dividing line that gets sharper as time goes. There will be people who have a shred of intellectual capacity and haven’t been hollowed out be capitalism, who raise their kids to be free from shame and shackles of toxic social norms and let them just live and discover on their own what sexuality means to them.

And the orcs, who want literal dark-ages levels of shame, hate and fear and of course power-imbalances as deeply rooted foundations to anything and everything related to sex, and they will only want children associated with sex when it involves controlling them or worse.

I really feel like the linux thing is far more cultural than practical, and if you don’t actually enjoy fiddling around with settings and software, you’re probably not going to enjoy the community either.

I have no idea what I’m going to do, I can’t afford a new PC nor do I have the desire to buy a new PC just because Microsoft says jump through this new hoop. I’ll probably just do a bypass and ask around the docks for a security key “workaround” from the friendly, local, sailors with eyepatches and peg legs.

  • My ban was for quoting someone who said a slur so they couldn’t edit their comment after I reported it, and I said as much in my report.

It’s the moderators, they are dumb as fuck because there’s no consequence because they’re all volunteers. The only thing stupider than the volunteer mods who don’t demand pay, are the people who get hung up on what moderators are doing or not. We should have all stopped taking reddit so seriously a long, long time ago. Protests? Jesus christ, a reddit protest does as much real-world good as a kindergarten protest by the children mad that they can’t get more cookies.

  • Nobody is going to quit, all mod roles can be replaced in minutes with people excited to do it. If they have to, they can pay them even and make them official employees and never have to worry about protests again.

Also, who cares, the site has a clock over it, in a few years most users will be bots and children and all content will be farmed slop akin to youtube.

Furthermore, if anyone thinks that “protests” on reddit accomplish ANYTHING that person is a literal child, or someone else who shouldn’t be trusted to operate heavy machinery.

Whatever high ideals we had for reddit a decade ago are long-since dead and buried and that’s fine, instead of whinging about what we lost we should be trying to figure out what to build next to maintain some semblance of an internet in an age of AI slop.

  • The only reason we’re trying to somehow compromise and allow or even incorporate cheating software into student education is because the tech-bros and singularity cultists have been hyping this technology like it’s the new, unstoppable force of nature that is going to wash over all things and bring about the new Golden Age of humanity as none of us have to work ever again.

Meanwhile, 80% of AI startups sink and something like 75% of the “new techs” like AI drive-thru orders and AI phone support go to call centers in India and Philippines. The only thing we seem to have gotten is the absolute rotting destruction of all content on the internet and children growing up thinking it’s normal to consume this watered-down, plagiarized, worthless content.
