I think this has been somewhat alluded to but you will be more stable with smaller pieces. First it increases the overall glue surface in the piece. End grain is somewhat fragile so depending on how your friends use them it could be a problem with bigger pieces. The other thought is overall aesthetic. I’m wondering if it will look weird if you have larger end grain pieces vs smaller. Not sure either way but worth looking at. You could dry fit with larger pieces and if it looks funny then just cut them down to a smaller size.

I ended up going with the box makers plow with a full set of metric blades. When I need the larger plane I’ll probably skip the regular plow and just get the combo. That way I’ve got something for the small work I tend to do more often than not.

Have you found the plow works fine regardless of grain direction? I can’t imagine you really need to have left and right hand models since it’s typically for a joint that will be hidden anyways but curious what your experience is.

The Veritas combo is definitely heavier but it’s not a behemoth like the 55, it’s closer to the 45. I like the idea of being able to do reads, flutes, etc but I’m also currently needing them for boxes I’m making so it’s a much smaller scale of work. I’ll report back what I end up going with and any insights I have if anyone’s interested.

The answer is actually corporate greed and synthesized hype for what’s probably a pretty quality piece of equipment if you remove all the enshitification from it.

Just want to add in I think sentinels do have some bugs. It’s not consistent but I’ve seen super weird behavior from them for awhile. Going underground not deaggroing them. Escaping to space station, having aggro dropped, but going back to the planet I constantly hear the sound of sentinel interceptors spawning in.

The interceptors aren’t too bad so I just flew around until I found a building I could use as added cover and had to kill all 5 waves.

That didn’t work for me when I had the same problem. I think they introduced a bug at some point where that’s not always working. I’ve gone as deep as I could go and just left it on for awhile and they never left. I ended up having to kill all the waves.

How precise does the angle need to be? I can usually get really good precision for a couple cuts by just using 90 degree reference surfaces on two sides of the bit. So either an inner 90 corner or 2 gauges setup tangential to each other. That may not give enough precision for what you need though.

Watch his video on when he was asked to interview Obama. It’s actually great. He also had a great vid on disinformation on the internet. He seems pretty rational after watching those.
