  • I’m saying this as a 2 year convert Firefox user: mostly easily replaceable. Sure, I can browse pretty much every page that I can on chrome. However, a few sites don’t work the same way - sometimes because of the site’s conscious decision, sometimes because of Firefox.

Take Facebook, for example. On desktop, I can’t make voice calls anymore from the desktop site. For a while it was possible with non encrypted chats, but now pretty much all of them are encrypted, and FF is not compatible with that. I also can’t watch h265 videos in my chats anymore. I’m still sticking with FF, but I just can’t easily say that FF is just as good for everything (I’m still not going back to chrome).

Back then, when I wanted to watch a film, I checked Netflix first, then amazon video. I only reached for other sources if it was unavailable at both. Now there are way too many platforms to pay for, and they are getting way too shitty to pay at all.

There was a time when I was even feeling good going “clean”. Now everything is dirtier than I ever imagined.

  • Same here but with several games that don’t run on Linux. For some degree, I even understand the problem, however painful it is: ANY multilayer’s anticheat is a pain in the ass if you have to develop them for two OSs at the same time. Counter Strike: Source was virtually unbannable on Linux for way too long, and I’m still not sure where CS2 is standing now (I stopped back in the CSGO times).

I really don’t know how we could fix this, and no, cutting off THAT many games I like is not an option (some of them even barely have a (good) alternative - think of Rocket League).

Humans are selfish by definition (genes). It would be like rewinding a film and starting over.

The main problem lies within humans’ tendency to put themselves (their family/tribe/culture/etc.) before others’. I know there are fantastic people who don’t, but in the grand scheme of things, humanity will always be too selfish in general. I’d bet that will be our bane (we’re kind of slowly killing ourselves with it already).

God forbid I recommended you to buy an HP ever, but it feels like they’ve been awful only in the ink jet section. At least my HP laser printer (283 something) doesn’t require me to have a(n) HP Smart account (I don’t even know how/where to set up one), I’ve had it for ~3-4 years now, and it’s been reliable and trusty ever since. I can imagine they started pulling the same shady shit with the new laser printers, but this one seems to be working as of now. Fingers crossed.

EDIT: Still buy a Brother, I have only heard amazing things about them; just saying it’s not happening everywhere - yet.

  • I just thought I would log in to Twitch just to say hi to the streamer I was in the same game with. Twitch loads, starts to play the stream with no problem. BUT when I try to login, it says Firefox is not a supported browser. It had no problem playing all the content, showing the chat, etc. - but for some reason it still says my browser is not supported and I can’t log in. I looked it up. FF is “not supported” because it has an enhanced tracking protection feature. Twitch wants to track you, and it can’t if you use Firefox. Such a petty way; this will just turn me away from Twitch even more.
