    I hate her so much.

But for the greater good i would happily take the L to have her as “my” Bundespräsidentin. Even though all i want is that she rots in hell. But atleast she would have less opportunities to fuck over all the people of europe in that rather representative role on a national level. She doesnt deserve it one bit. But getting her out of the EU is good thing.

That’s really decent of you. I wish more people had a selfless attitude like that.

Also, while we’re at it, apologies for some of our (Ireland) awful politicians in the EU too.

Man, I thought we reached bottom with Olaf Scholz, now Merz and 2027 von der Leyen? Can we please get at least some semblance of progressive left politics back?

I thought she was not popular in Germany…But might be forwarded as a candidate for Presidency by the CDU, it seems.

She isn’t, but the president isn’t elected by popular vote but from parliament.

        parliament

Tnx, so the Bundestag elects her. Is she popular there as far as you know?

I used translation option to read the article. Don’t know how the original reads, but translations was bad or it reads sensationally weird to me. Anyhow it sounded all like gossip, is this correct?

          so the Bundestag elects her

Yes and no. The president is elected by the Bundesversammlung (federal convention) which exists and meets solely for this task. It consists of all members of the Bundestag, the federal pairlament, and an equal number of designees from the states pairlaments who are elected by the pairlaments in advance of the presidential election. The individual share of the latter depends on the population of the state.

I thought she was not popular in Germany…

That’s never a problem. The brain-dead and the senile combine to a massive majority and both are changing their opinion instantly once the right propagandists tell them how to think.

Also the president isn’t elected by the population. So it’s even cheaper as politicians don’t need to be brain-washed, they can simply be bought.

The brain-dead and the senile combine to a massive majority

Unfortunately, this is not uniquelly a German situation. I find it a miracle we still have (some sort of) a Government at all in our divided countries.

Sadly I think that you are wrong here. More division and no working government would at least be a sign that there is a healthy chunk with brains left. Instead we get totally idiotic populists in power because propaganda victims are the majority and calling th shots (well, not actually, but they are too stupid to realize how the people they elect are working against them anyway).

            no working government.

Careful what you wish for. No Government usually leads to utter chaos, and I’m not so optimistic about human nature. And none of the problems you care for would be resolved. Check for extreme examples Haiti, South-Africa, Myanmar etc.

I don’t actually “wish” for it. But it’s the better alternative to the fascist C*U+AfD coalition based on populism and culture war bullshit we are right now aiming for.

And why go so far to find extreme examples around the world? When you can also look at the usual state of government in Belgium, a close European neighbour…

I imagine that you saying it was more figurative, probably. You were refering to the actual Politics and not the Administration perse. I think I took your remark too literal, and therefore chose examples of countries of not having a working Gvement.

The German Federal President is elected by parliament + some representatives from each regional council, so I don’t think that’s a threat for now but it certainly will in the next popular vote.
