He also compared terminal commands with cheat codes in GTA and other games, he understands what benefits you take from them, but not from terminal commands
how does khal integrate with neomutt for received invitations? khard works pretty well AFAIK with neomutt. Also, have you tried alot (notmuch + afew + alot + …)? It sounds alot integrates much better than neomutt with notmuch, which in turn integrates much more better than mutt…
Alot has been built around notmuch so its integration is better. On a daily use, I’ve never noticed any issues or latency with notmuch in neomutt though. I was considering Alot as well when looking for a terminal email client but my understanding was that it doesn’t allow for IMAP folders creation within the app. You have to use mbsync and that would slightly friction with my work email workflow. Please let me know if this has changed or if I’ve misinterpreted things. Also, while the neomutt documentation can be quite intimidating, I felt the Alot one to be too limited.
For calendar invites I use mutt-ics to display them nicely and a keybinding associated to a simple khal to seamlessly add them to my calendar. For contacts I use abook.
After years in Neomutt I’m still open to other tools though. Why would you recommend that Alot over Neomutt?
Yyup, notmuch doesn’t sync folders AFAIK since it is an indexer (a fast one), one needs mbsync and/or imapnotify to keep mail up to date (the combination might be mbsync to sync on boot, and then imapnotify to keep things up to date based on such notifications) to keep mail up to date. Another options is khard which is menat for cardav contacts just as khal is meant for caldav calendar… mutt-ics sounds great for ics calendar invitations, which I sometimes get from non family and non organization parties, otherwise I receive caldav ones, which I’d like to integrate with the caldav calendar so it syncs, perhaps mutt-ics handles that as well, first time reading about it, :)
