Will there be a compact mode view? One of my favorite things with Alexandrite and mlmym is that they maximize screen real estate, instead of forcing a vertical mobile app type of view on a desktop. Great work and I’m looking forward to testing it out when it’s ready!

Any suggestions on where to start with troubleshooting an external hard drive that isn’t being detected? For context, it’s a very old 1TB HDD that is in its own case. I’m not really sure how I can open it because the case has no screws. It worked last week and suddenly stopped. Usually the led indicator blinks when I plug it into my laptop’s usb port, but now it just stays the same color (meaning no activity).

On my phone (IOS), I use Aha DNS Blitz because it uses a VPN profile instead of an app, so it protects you on any network you’re connected to (home wifi, mobile data, public wifi, etc.).
scytale@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•What are the main challenges in Linux adoption for New users, and how can it be addressed?English8·2 years agoIt’s the first step of installation, making a bootable usb/CD. Most non-technical people can’t be arsed to create a bootable drive, then go into the bios boot settings to run it. I haven’t used Windows in a long time so I don’t know how it’s installed these days, but the fact that it comes installed out-of-the-box when people buy a computer lets them skip the first and biggest step to running linux, which is getting it installed in the first place.
Distros have come a long way that a Windows user trying Linux Mint can hit the ground running. It’s no longer about the learning curve for USING linux, it’s INSTALLING linux that’s the problem.

You can try Sardu (https://www.sarducd.it/sardu-multiboot-creator). I believe it has an option in the GUI to specifically enable persistent storage.

If it can embed and play gifs and videos within the app instead of opening an in-app browser, it will definitely put it in front of the race between other apps currently available. I’ll wait for the open beta so I don’t need to sign up with an email.
