Personally the only laptop I’d be interested in that isn’t a MacBook is the Framework 13 pro but those ram prices are rough.

If you want stable and can deal with the downsides honestly I suggest immutable distros. Otherwise Fedora is pretty reasonably stable for a pretty up to date distro and also has decent community support which is underrated. If your drive(s) are setup for it it’s pretty easy to distro hop anyways so it’s worth a shot

You’re only saying too powerful because of the price I’m assuming? For me if this was in a 14inch chassis, it’d meet most of my checkboxes, especially if it has half decent gaming performance. Don’t know how good fex is though.

Windows no, linux maybe. 15 inches is too big though.

I’ll probably have to look at the docs but does xrandr assign something like a uuid to displays? I do remember having to set a display manually for one game for Wayland so it launched on the right monitor but I thought I had some issues with the numerical order moving around for some reason. Presumably I’d also want a kvm or something to start the pc from my living room as well and just plug or unplug from the tv itself?

This is true although that’s what enforcing strict type checking and good linting is supposed to help with. I think it’s partially an issue that you can kinda just type what you think and not everyone thinks efficiently/ programmer-y

I think I’d shoot for something like this for maybe a project 2 or so. I’ve messed a bit with cpal already because I wanted to mess around with doing some basic dsp stuff so I’d love to do a full easy effects replacement with this included. Or alternatively include something basic in the settings project I mentioned a bit higher up

This is some sage advice thank you. I’m guilt of always starting something super difficult and then going back. My first couple qt projects were forcibly scoped because I had actually end users I needed to keep in mind and that helped immensely.

These are all some very good ideas. I particularly like the ffmpeg idea. I do think a file manager is on the horizon for me eventually as well, I’ve always wanted to try making one

I’d love to do something this big in scope eventually maybe a couple projects down the road but I’d definitely want rust to be at the level of my main languages before I delve into that depth. I also would want to avoid the gimp development times it seems it takes forever for stuff over there

I think this a pretty good idea. There’s a few other ideas below as well that are like settings tweaks or ui for them, it might be cool to build out something kinda like what opensuse has with a bunch of settings put into a graphical app.

I’ve heard snapmaker as a brand has been unreliable is that something I could solve with klipper? Otherwise the Anycubic is also a cheaper option between the two it seems

Have you tried any mods like a different fan or 3d prints to reduce noise? Curious if those affect the sound
