taking a guess but I already saw some other comments on another thread mention this: The chart boys in any corps will see Engagement == Profit. Thus they will tune their recommendations solely for that. And if you aren’t bothered about properly policing your video upload platform the end result is highly divisive content thats “not boring”.
Divisive content makes people angry so they engage in comments.
i used to be on reddit. And I used to get into “debates” that devolved into a slap fight and make me angry about the people who intentionally or unintentionally riled me up with outrageous (real or my own perception) opinions.
While lemmy also has slap fights, I feel like the lack of an “algorithm” tuned for engagement prevents continuous fueling of the fire, metaphorically speaking.
Hehe title says highest resolution and thumbnail’s a blurry mess.
Edit: wait the whole thing is blurry. Which means… we didn’t even have this before?
What stopped us? Distance in space or that light simply escaped and we couldn’t zoom in on finer increments?
One of the reasons I am an atheist. I mean what was God thinking making these morons?
Feels like sam secretly wishes this to be true
Its convenient. Not everyone wants to waste their life centering divs you know
There is a summary bot that is usually the 1 comment on any article posts. Not sure why it did not appear for this.
More like stock buybacks
Roads are fundamental to the operation of any government. It isn’t simply that states need to maintain roads. It is that states need roads in order to exist.
Is it right to say then, that the users of the roads pay for maintenance? Do you expect the government to print more money to pay for maintenance?
Edit:
Regressive taxation leads to overfunded main roads and underfunded side streets.
As opposed to both main roads and side streets being underfunded without tolls and road taxes? Do you expect Government to print money to pay for all this?
The problem is that highway advocates don’t solve the problem of “who’s going to pay for all this?”. The reason infrastructure in America is in disrepair is that funding for highways is supposed to be gotten from tolls and road taxes. But since everywhere in America is a freeway… there’s no funding for repairs.
Expecting the Government budget to cover maintenance of infrastructure is wishful thinking… unless you’re also willing to agree that the military is allocated too much money.
Ok then that means we have to consider the fact that Car-oriented zoning laws and construction are bad for our future. 15-minute cities and infrastructure to support alternative modes of transit for longer distances are the way forward.
India is pro-israel. Especially upper class Hindus who are the majority of tech workers in IT companies.
If it wasn’t for politics then they shouldn’t take government contracts
If you can do the same shit with solar panels or cars or whatever device that has a proprietary bootloader or glued together, then you can climb back on to your high horse.
… shove it up their CEO’s ass?
We should be embracing them. A lot of financial experts is good to have against the fight against ghoulish institutions in Wall St.
The risk is that he would actually have to compete instead of resting on the beach. It’s good that these people are sweating when some fire is placed under their butts in the form of competition.
Actually I can’t believe it will be business as usual (yo ho ho)
They’re actually violating laws. They want to layoff but that would involve giving severance and pay for unemployment benefits. They want to freeload off of tech worker productivity while not compensating fairly.
it may not seem like it but… being offline is the best thing you can do to your mental health. No need to overwhelm your brain with stuff happening elsewhere when you already have to deal with stuff closer to home. Being aware is generally better than being ignorant but it shouldn’t disable your daily life.
