I’m not the poster you’re contempting, I’m just some asshole Empiricist who works to consistently check before contempting.

Scientific-integrity is not in the culture I grew-up in ( dad’s medical-culture Scientism has no tolerance for it, neither did mom’s Catholicism ),

but it is required for outright intellectual-integrity.

For those who won’t check the link to see the results, here is the abstract from 1 paper:

    Infectious agents and Alzheimer’s disease

    Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia worldwide. Individuals affected by the disease gradually lose their capacity for abstract thinking, understanding, communication and memory. As populations age, declining cognitive abilities will represent an increasing global health concern. While AD was first described over a century ago, its pathogenesis remains to be fully elucidated. It is believed that cognitive decline in AD is caused by a progressive loss of neurons and synapses that lead to reduced neural plasticity. AD is a multifactorial disease affected by genetic and environmental factors. The molecular hallmarks of AD include formation of extracellular β amyloid (Aβ) aggregates, neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau protein, excessive oxidative damage, an imbalance of biothiols, dysregulated methylation, and a disproportionate inflammatory response. Recent reports have shown that viruses (e.g., Herpes simplex type 1, 2, 6A/B; human cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis C virus, influenza virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, SARS-CoV-2), bacteria (e.g., Treponema pallidum, Borrelia burgdorferi, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Tannerella forsythia, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcmitans, Eikenella corrodens, Treponema denticola, and Helicobacter pylori), as well as eukaryotic unicellular parasites (e.g., Toxoplasma gondii) may factor into cognitive decline within the context of AD. Microorganisms may trigger pathological changes in the brain that resemble and/or induce accumulation of Aβ peptides and promote tau hyperphosphorylation. Further, the mere presence of infectious agents is suspected to induce both local and systemic inflammatory responses promoting cellular damage and neuronal loss. Here we review the influence of infectious agents on the development of AD to inspire new research in dementia based on these pathogens.

    bold-highlighting is by me.

  • IF you are in accounting, especially if you are in regulatory compliance accounting, or going into it, you NEED to know about a book named “Financial Shenanigans”.

I’m not intellectually-equal to it ( or to accounting, for that matter: psychology’s much easier to crack, for me ), but it is THE most important book for forensic-accountants to know.

The bullshit that they’ve been pulling, where “Between 2017 and 2021, Amazon had more than $25 billion in losses from its devices business, according to the documents. The losses for the years before and after that period couldn’t be determined.” didn’t produce criminal consequences…

You’ve got to be kidding, right?

Individual human goes to jail or prison for $2k tax fraud, but … big tech gets a free pass on that kind of “accounting”??

    couldn’t be determined??

Either run a tight-ship or don’t be surprised when it sinks.

Economies are the “ships” that carry our countries, & have to be properly regulated, exactly as a tightly-regulated ship has to be, to keep it afloat longer.

It isn’t the sloppy mechanic-racers who win NASCAR, it is the ones who control everything correctly, with total right-regulation.

I remember when I’d read that Cisco switched to closing their books out daily, so as to always know the exact position of the company…

what an incredible degree of financial-operations integrity that was…

Anyways, “Financial Shenanigans” is THE book to dig into, if you want to know if the business you’re considering investing in is cooking the books… and you’re capable of understanding that stuff at the level it’s speaking…

I would suggest, instead, that “Classical Physics” is created by entanglement:

the non-quantum reality at our scale is just what happens, when everything is entangled, to the point of clogging-up-the-works of quantumness, as it were…

.: you get things like … as you scale up from quantum-level … the everything-is-discontinuous/everything-is-turbulence … turns into, once enough entanglement is happening, “laminar flow” in fluid-dynamics, even-though NOTHING in QM is laminar-flow, so there’s simply no basis for “laminar flow” at the lower-level…

I wonder how significant this is, really…

  • This may all SEEM fine & dandy, but…

The such ocean gyres, if I’m remembering what they’re called correctly, had a normal, established-for-millions-of-years kind-of-ecology in them…

NOW, however, we’re forcing that this fungus become a dominant-player in them…

WHAT DOES THAT FUNGUS DO TO THE OTHER ORGANISMS IN THAT ECOLOGY?

( people may remember some years ago when the Purple Loostrife we imported was killing all our North American marshes, turning them into thickets of woody stems/runners/etc, & each individual plant could put out 50,000 seeds per year…

So, the Canadian Gov’t did test after test after test, & finally resolved that a … Chinese, iirc, ladybird bug ate the stuff, but didn’t eat any other plants…

so, they imported them & let them loose…

You know those new orange ladybird bugs?

    the ones that bite animals?

    Those are the ones, ttbomk.

They don’t eat any other plants, other than purple loostrife, but their habit of biting us means that carnivorism is normal in them, and … how does that affect the ecology??

You can’t just arbitrarily alter ecologies & responsibly expect them to remain functionally-balanced, & in-harmony: consequences tend to multiply each-other, & tipping-points do get crossed. )

  • Remember Feynman’s criticism of NASA’s producing of the space shuttle disaster?

~ engineering culture is founded on … you have to prove it is safe.

business culture is founded on … you have to prove it’s dangerous.

NASA, in adopting business culture, guaranteed that something of this kind would inevitably happen.

    it did. ~

You can play the same recording, and all the organizations which are so “institutional mentality”, ie their heads sooo far up their institutional asses, that they “need to do a reality-check”…

and nothing is going to change, until we’re gone.

    We WON’T learn, right?

Universe, therefore, has the obligation to continue escalating the damage, until our collective-unconscious “changes its mind” about won’t-learn.

    Or we become extinguished, whichever…

given how ClimatePunctuation’s escalating all the political-ideology-rabies & all the religious-ideology-rabies, AND throwing-in food-insecurity, survival-in-insane-temperature-waves, chaotic megadroughts, floodings, extra hurricanes, etc…

I’m not expecting the “ok, we’ll learn now!” option to happen in time.

You have to want to earn unconscious-mind learning, to have earning of it, right??

  • I read that Scarlett’s family & friends couldn’t tell it apart from her actual voice.

I’d say that “Open AI” or whatever they’re called, trained it specifically on only her voice.

The seems-narcissistic-machiavellian-sociopath-CEO whats-his-face tried to get her to agree to this,

    she wouldn’t agree,

he tweeted “her” when releasing the update ( after Scarlett’s movie )

    she lawyered up,

    he backed down…

I’d say it’s a clear case of identity-theft-for-profit of a celebrity, by a consistently narcissistic-machiavellian-sociopath who’s kinda leaving lots of corpses of “integrity” all over the place.

There’s some law which protects celebrities from use of their likeness, and rightly:

it’s their “coin” that their career is made-of, right?

  • When a handful of monopolies decide that no factchecking will be seen by anybody, anymore,

and only profitable-to-their-dictatorship disinformation will be seen,

then humanity will not have any means of countering that:

    it will be too late.

We are “the frog dropped into the slowly-heating pot of water”.

People pretend that monopoly is “maybe” harmful, economically, but it is an existential-threat to countries, and with globalization, now to civil-rights as a valid-category.

  • I remember somebody was doing 3D-woven composites, possibly for spacecraft, some years ago…

This is essentially the same idea, but with nanotubes.

This suggests that weaving reinforcement tow through the layers of the layup would be structurally-significant, if it were done densely-in-pattern, enough…

In aerospace, maybe it’d be structurally significant ( aircraft have, iirc, only a 10% margin in structural-strength, though that may be just the aluminum semi-monocoque builds )

  • I have read that the actuality includes a loophole you didn’t speak of:

Once someoen owns shares, they can privately-sell them, or give them away, or will them to someone…

Once enough people have done this, the “private” company becomes actually publically-traded, though not on any exchange…

…creating some legal difficulties, re regulations.

From that bit, which I never would have known to even consider ( some article I read, some years ago ), then it looks like people can sell their shares to another private-individual.

    Maybe some jurisdictions prohibit that.

I don’t know, I’m just identifying an angle people apparently haven’t commonly considered.
