The contempt Proton is showing for their users is astounding. They not only think people will fall for this transparent act of damage control, but they also have the gall to shift blame onto the users.
Go read the comments. Obvious bots are posting praise and many critical comments are being deleted by the moderators.
If I had a VPN as good as Proton I’d switch to that and Tutamail in a heartbeat.
Seems like tuta is going the way of the slop code as well from what I’ve been seeing. Mailbox.org is topping my list for now. VPN hasn’t been decided yet. Everything else I’ll just self host on my vps behind wireguard.
Relevant Statement from Tuta on AI Code (and other stuff):

“Internal use is different because whoever is committing LLM-assisted code takes full responsibility for it and is therefore staking their reputation on that code being good. Git blame will also still show their name.”
So no external AI code but internal is fine apparently.
Well yes. Random people generating pull requests that they have no idea about IS different from a Tuta employee asking a Chatbot how to solve a specific problem.
Proton’s devs are hopefully better than their PR team. And at this rate both will need new jobs soon.
Its a rebuttal while the pitchforks are waving. Inevitably going to be volatile while the 404 piece has people feeling betrayed and let down.
I found the post useful personally. Seeing the chat screenshots, I have more information for my consideration.
I have zero interest in reddit comments, so didnt read those. I assume its the usual bots arguing with each other.
There is no rebuttal and ‘Richard’ ignores the most damning parts of the 404 article. His own screenshot has Andy telling employees to go on Reddit amd change the narrative!
We all get to read and interpret as we choose.
It’s worth reading some of the comments, particularly the ones by OP (EpokK1). He had time to prepare the original post and polish it a bit; the comment replies had to be quicker to beat the time decay feature/problem of threaded discussions. His in-thread replies are less polished, and speak to his character.
Interesting. I’ll have a look.
Edit to add: You were right, some additional information in there, including from another person at Proton. Also many good reminders for why I avoid reddit comments. 😅
Trying to use logic with someone still posting links to reddit isn’t going to work out…
Especially when they’re apparently active in the reddit threads they post (from what another comment said)
What kind of fuckn ad hominem shit is this
Get over yourself.
Yea reddit sucks, whatever.
The topic of this discussion happened on reddit. If you don’t want to see it, its pretty easy to just fuck off somewhere else
Man…
If you were the type to ask questions, you might learn something.
But I’ll respect that you just want to make assumptions and hurl insults.
So I’ll block you, and you can keep doing that. And I’ll never accidentally explain something to you later.
Everyone wins.
I guess things won’t work out for Proton then, because Reddit is an official forum for the company support staff to communicate with users.
