GrapheneOS is the best! I can now confirm it works great on the tablet as well! I understand it’s ironic de-google phone/tablet with google hardware, but it just works better then anything else. Permission toggles, pin scrambling, auto-reboot, scopes, MAC randomization, isolated user profiles, longer passwords, sandboxed apps, open source firmware, no bloat & the battery life is incredible now.

It is easy to move to Linux & GrapheneOS full time & remove Apple, Google, Microsoft etc. It exceeded expectations so much so that I want to share it with other people. I cannot recommend this enough to improve your life. #FOSS

It has its own browser, attestation, backup, and play store interface. A ton of the code is also pushed upstream.

You’re making this project sound like its some random fork of Android, which is a disservice.

Would you not call Ubuntu a different OS than Debian? And if you do, would you find it unreasonable to say that Ubuntu offers Debian app compatibility?

GrapheneOS and stock Android have a similar relationship.

The difference between custom windows builds and GrapheneOS is that one is buggy and broken and the other isn’t. Probably because Windows is proprietary and not designed to be modified, unlike Android.

Also yes, you can modify AOSP and call it a separate OS. Plenty of other projects have done so in the past.

It doesn’t support Android Auto, right? That’s what’s holding me back from installing it.

As far as android phones, I only recommend the latest Pixel devices with GrapheneOS support. It might be a bit of a learning curve, but you’ll be better off in the end once you install GrapheneOS on it.

For now, I can’t recommend using anything else in the android ecosystem.

This. And lets be honest, the reason Graphene only supports pixel devices is because you can re-lock the boot loader enhancing the security of the device exponentially.

FYI: if you have verizon, you cannot buy the phone through them (they …do things… that make it difficult to impossible to root.)

Do regular apps like Uber/maps/banks work flawlessly in this without jumping through hoops or randomly breaking ?

I’m interested in trying it but im a bit concerned about switching a device I rely on so much to it.

Love GrapheneOS, don’t love the weird combative community culture, or (former) lead developer tho…

Wake me up when it runs on more than like 5 bloody phones that aren’t made by Google I guess then.
