There’s a lot that can be done already with CLI tools and D-Bus APIs, which OpenCode makes easy for LLMs to interface with. And if it needs to look at your screen it can use the D-Bus APIs to take a screenshot and look at it. Security isn’t great but it’s a problem with Linux in general.
questionable legal copyright status of produced code
So many projects have LLM generated content now that ruling content from common LLMs illegal would be catastrophic to the economy
The main value of LLMs in coding IMO is research not implementation

I used to use Arch. On x86 it was alright, the AUR was nice and the wiki is really good. When I switched to an ARM laptop they didn’t have an official ARM version and at that time Arch Linux ARM was way behind on updates, so the Asahi Linux project switched to Fedora Workstation and I did the same. Now I use NixOS which I like much better than both Arch and Fedora.

it’s very probable this PC is running some hardened Linux distribution made look like Windows
Instead of using Wine it uses Vodka

He should have used Linux
Nushell is severely underrated, who needs a CSV viewer when your CLI comes with one built-in?

Linux Mint seems like a better Debian variant, but I would choose Fedora over both

IDK that I would consider Ubuntu a beginner Linux system simply because it uses Snap over the most established Flatpak

Compared to neomutt that sounds awful

I almost got hired as a research assistant but the professor I wanted to work for told me he couldn’t afford to due to the budget cuts going around, I’ve also seen scholarship opportunities get cancelled as well

I’m curious to hear what are some favorite things to change in any DE.
I like using a tiling wm instead of a traditional de which is keyboard-centric and lays things out nicely instead of overlapping everything which is kindof stupid. niri and noctalia v5 is my current stack. I also have the settings defined in Nix and synced to other user accounts.
Any particular widgets that you would recommend?
I have the CPU/RAM/Swap/Temp monitors in my bar so that I can keep tabs on the CPU/RAM/Swap/Temp on my computer and if a freeze or lag spike occurs I have a better idea of what’s going on.
Do you have a favorite theme?
Catppuccin, which has a Nix module that styles my apps as well. For font I use Inter and JetBrains Mono Nerd Font set through the Stylix module

I had one and it died after 4 years. From what I’ve seen on the internet and what Apple’s technicians told me this isn’t an uncommon issue. Fortunately my 7-8 year old HP laptop still functions (aside from the battery which completely crapped out after 2-3 years). Also they started soldering everything to the motherboard so you have to replace almost the entire computer if it breaks.
the original os which I use for photography still feels like new after 5 years
Near the end macOS felt slow/throttled. Linux was fast though.

For M1 most things work except for USB-HDMI dongles and the fingerprint reader, I think M2 is in a similar boat now

saving millions of computers from landfills when Apple no longer supports them
Kindof except that their build quality tanked during the late Intel era and the motherboards will die a lot sooner now

opensource community can be an evil pit of haters
More like worthless shits on Kiwi Farms
As a regular Asahi user (m2pro mbp), I literally felt the project slowing down when they quit.
Me too, there’s still great work being done on the project but the pace hasn’t been the same since

Michael Dell of Dell Technologies, Patrick Collison of Stripe, Tobi Lütke of Shopify, Jack Dorsey of Block, Matthew Prince of Cloudflare, Jason Fried of 37signals, Brendan Iribe of Sesame, and DHH himself each put in a million dollars to make it happen.
What the dell
Niri + Noctalia FTW
